The much needed vacation AFTER the vacation. There it's out there now.
You're probably reading this like... What?... This is a fast ticket to nowhere.... Wait for it (It's totally worth it).
Everyone, talks about going on vacation and all the amazing things to do, see and/or eat on vacation. You may spend months planning or large sums of money paying for it.
Then, the flight happens and you land for seven days, or two weeks. It turns out to be the best days of your life. You live it to the fullest and with no regrets.
You hike, climb, swim, tan and lets not forget party. Because vacations just aren't vacations if you can't "shake a tail feather" as mom likes to call it. Oh, and of course the alcohol, especially if its a celebratory vacation. There will be shots and lots of them.
However, all good things come to an end and you get back on a flight, land and life as you know is should resume but then... all that fun and excitement finally hits you. You're tired and let's not forget the jet lag, that is absolutely no one's friend.
Now, what I have to go back to my reality... that awesome time will fade into memories only to scroll upon and be remind in annual increments on Facebook.
No one told you about the vacation AFTER the vacation, right? Please, allow me.
It is vital to allow yourself, your spouse and/or family to re-acclimate into reality. It is not the best idea to land and just go back into your daily routine. You have to allow yourself time to relax, unwind and gradually get back on schedule.
I like to take an additional day or two to let this happen. I usually plan my vacation so I return on my normal weekends. This ensures me two days to have a 'pull yourself together' moment. I also use this time to cleanse my body from the exotic foods and alcohol.
Traveling is exciting and super fun. It is also very draining and takes a huge toll on your body. In order to be the best version of yourself you must allow yourself time to relax. Yes, relax after you relax.
In my personal experience, it does not benefit someone to jump back into work or school as your body will eventually crash. You may even find that you are running out of energy and suddenly feel sleepy and groggy. No one wants that, especially your boss.
Allowing yourself a day or two is good. It provides an opportunity to go through photos (and delete all the incriminating evidence lol), do laundry and get some much needed sleep. Especially, if you have traveled to a different time zone, like a 14 hours flight from Japan.
Sleep! Sleep! Sleep is your friend and your body will thank you... and your life will too!
That's it, that is the big thing that no one tells you.
Thanks for stopping by and Traveling with May
